Substandard construction practices surface in PWD Road Project | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, June 15: The Public Works Department (PWD) road project from Khanna Galla to Baba Makam Maimal in the Sunderbani sub-division of Nowshera, Rajouri, has come under scrutiny due to alleged substandard construction practices. Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of construction and materials used in the project. Locals expressed outrage when the contractor initially showed reluctance in commencing the construction work for the 700-meter road leading to Devsthan. After facing public backlash, the construction work eventually started. However, it has been discovered that instead of using standardized gravel, the contractor opted for soil, sand, and subpar gravel, compromising the road's quality and durability. Despite locals informing senior officers about the use of substandard materials, no action has been taken so far. The casual approach of PWD officers towards their duties has allowed the contractor to cut corners and compromise the project's integrity. Residents of the area have pointed out several issues, including the absence of installed pipes as originally planned and the lack of a 500-meter drain, raising concerns about the misuse of public funds. They are demanding a thorough investigation into these irregularities. In response, the locals have requested the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to intervene and take appropriate action against any officials involved in the substandard construction practices. They emphasize the need for accountability and justice to ensure responsible utilization of public funds and the execution of projects to the highest standards. The Division Engineer of PWD in Nowshera has assured that he will personally investigate the matter and initiate an inquiry. The community eagerly awaits concrete action and a resolution to address the concerns raised. |
