Land sinks near Surinsar lake, people worried, authorities in slumber
6/20/2023 10:54:26 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 20: The picturesque Surinsar Lake, a popular tourist attraction in the Jammu region, is facing a concerning issue as the land surrounding the lake has been sinking for the past two to three years. Despite being aware of the situation, the Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority, responsible for the lake’s maintenance and development, has not paid much attention towards addressing the problem.
According to the locals many shops in the area have developed cracks due to the sinking of land. “Many heavy vehicles moving on this road have led to the road getting sunk and we have heard that a particular species of fish has been introduced in the lake eat up the land,” said a local.
Pertinently, Sunisar Lake, renowned for its serene beauty and tranquil surroundings, has been drawing a significant number of tourists to the Jammu region. However, the sinking land poses a threat to the stability and long-term sustainability of the tourist destination.
The Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority, entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the maintenance and development of Sunisar Lake, despite being aware of the issue, has not implemented any significant measures to mitigate the sinking or ensure visitor safety.
The concerned citizens are demanding immediate action from the authority to prevent further deterioration of the situation. They emphasize the importance of preserving Sunisar Lake’s natural beauty and protecting the livelihoods of those involved in the tourism industry.
