Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 21: The NSS Unit of GCW Bhagwati Nagar celebrated International Yoga Day under the guidance of Dr. Meeru Abrol, the esteemed Principal of the college. Yoga, originating in ancient India, has evolved into a global phenomenon embraced by people from diverse backgrounds. Recognized by the United Nations, International Yoga Day serves as a reminder of the power and significance of this ancient practice, promoting unity, harmony, and balance in our lives.
The theme for this year's celebration, "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," reflects the collective aspiration for "One Earth, One Family, and One Future." It highlights the holistic approach of yoga in improving overall well-being. In today's fast-paced world, where stress, anxiety, and sedentary lifestyles prevail, yoga offers a time-tested remedy to restore balance and foster a healthy mind-body connection.
GCW Bhagwati Nagar is dedicated to promoting the practice of yoga and making it accessible to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. To celebrate International Yoga Day, the college organized a week-long series of events leading up to June 21st. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about the transformative power of yoga and encourage individuals to embrace it as a means of personal growth and well-being. The events included an Essay Writing Competition on the topic "Yoga for Health and Wellness," a pledge-taking ceremony, and a poster-making competition. On the culminating day, staff members and NSS volunteers engaged in practicing various yoga asanas.
During the occasion, Dr. Meeru Abrol, the Principal, emphasized that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a way of life encompassing asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and ethical principles. Through the practice of yoga, individuals can experience enhanced flexibility, strength, endurance, inner peace, mindfulness, and self-awareness.
The events were organized by Prof. Anju Bala, the NSS Program Officer, who expressed delight in joining the global community to promote the practice of yoga and its manifold benefits for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The students and staff of the college actively participated in the event, demonstrating their enthusiasm for yoga and its positive impact on their lives.
