Children in armed conflict list excludes country: Kavinder | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29: Kavinder Gupta, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, praised PM Narendra Modi for India's latest accomplishment in being removed from the list of countries with children involved in armed conflict. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres acknowledged India's improved measures to protect children, leading to its exclusion from his annual report on the impact of armed conflict on children. Previously included in the report since 2010, India now joins a select group of nations, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Lake Chad Basin, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines, that have been recognized for their efforts. Gupta hailed this achievement as a significant milestone for the Modi government, emphasizing the improved global perception of the country. Responding to NC leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah's concerns about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) potentially causing unrest, Kavinder asserted that all citizens enjoy equal rights and any special provisions for specific communities or sects are against constitutional principles. He also highlighted that certain provisions within Shariat, such as severe punishments, are impractical in today's world, emphasizing the necessity of a Uniform Civil Code. Kavinder debunked claims that the implementation of UCC would disrupt society, noting that numerous Islamic countries operate under their own legal systems rather than Sharia law. He criticized the statements made by NC leaders, arguing that the sky has not fallen in these countries due to the absence of UCC. Furthermore, Kavinder criticized PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's call for peace in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that peace was achieved in the region after the nullification of Article 370. He pointed out the increase in tourist numbers and the decline of stone pelting incidents as evidence of improved conditions. Kavinder denounced Kashmir-centric political parties like NC and PDP, claiming that their criticism stems from their diminishing relevance under the Modi government. He highlighted the growing support of the people in Kashmir for the Modi regime, rendering the unfounded criticism from Farooq and Mehbooba irrelevant in the eyes of the public. |
