Jammu region struggles with severe shortage of doctors in Healthcare services: Rattan Lal Gupta | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 4: The healthcare services in the Jammu region have reached a critical state, causing immense concern for the well-being of the people and leaving the healthcare system in disarray. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of J&K National Conference, Jammu, strongly criticized the administration led by the Lieutenant Governor for its failure to provide adequate healthcare facilities to the people of the region. He highlighted the dire condition of Primary Health Centers (PHCs) with a severe shortage of doctors and insufficient medical infrastructure. Despite consistent efforts by the party to raise the issue over the past year, more than 165 PHCs are operating without qualified doctors. Gupta expressed concern about the reliance on paramedical staff to manage these PHCs, posing significant risks to the healthcare of the local population. Gupta emphasized that the rural and far-flung areas of Jammu region are particularly affected by this healthcare crisis. The administration has shown a lack of serious concern towards the hardships faced by the people residing in these areas. He pointed out that various Primary Health Centers, such as Mougri, Latti, and Thial, suffer from inadequate healthcare facilities. Shockingly, there are over 1000 vacancies for doctors and 5000 vacancies for paramedics in the Union Territory, exacerbating the strain on the already struggling healthcare system. Drawing attention to the situation at SMGS Hospital Jammu, Gupta highlighted the grim reality of the healthcare scenario in Jammu. He described the distressing conditions where pregnant women are forced to share a single bed in the gynecology ward, and similar conditions prevail in the children’s wards, with three patients sharing a single bed. These circumstances underscore the dire state of healthcare facilities in Jammu city. Gupta called upon the government to take immediate and necessary steps to address the healthcare crisis in Jammu. He stressed the importance of ensuring that people no longer feel compelled to seek better healthcare facilities in neighboring states. Gupta urged the administration to prioritize healthcare as a fundamental right and allocate the required resources to improve the healthcare infrastructure in Jammu. The well-being and lives of the people should be the topmost priority, requiring immediate action to address this pressing issue. |
