MeT predicts widespread rain during next 24 hrs

Srinagar, July 6: The Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Currently, the weather is partly cloudy in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of a brief spell of rain or thunderstorm at some places during the late afternoon or evening, the MeT office said.
The MeT office has also predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at scattered places on July 7 and intermittent light to moderate rain or showers at many places in Jammu and Kashmir on July 89. Some places in the plains of the Jammu region may receive moderate to heavy rain during the morning hours, the MeT office added.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 17.8C against 17.3C on the previous night, and it was 0.7C above normal for the summer capital, the MeT office said.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 26.9C against 30.2 C, which was 3.3C below normal for the summer capital of J&K.
Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded a low of 16.0C against the normal 16.1 C, and it was 0.1C below normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley.
Pahalgam had a low of 12.8C against the normal of 11.8 C, and it was above normal by 1.0C for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 15.6C against the normal of 16.1 C, and it was below normal by 0.5C for the north Kashmir area, while Kokernag recorded a low of 15.6C against the normal of 16.1 C, and it was 0.5C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district in north Kashmir.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 10.8C against the normal of 11.8 C, and it was 1.0C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the MeT office said.
