7/7/2023 10:42:40 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 7: Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager of Northern Railway, recently conducted an intensive inspection of the USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) project and other ongoing railway works in Jammu and Kashmir. Accompanied by senior officers from the USBRL Project, KRCL (Konkan Railway Corporation Limited), and Firozpur Division, Chaudhuri reviewed the progress of the project on July 5, 2023.
During the inspection, it was revealed that up to 95% of the work has been completed on the remaining 111 km long Katra-Banihal section. This brings the Indian Railways closer to connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the railway network. Shri Chaudhuri emphasized the need to expedite the remaining work of the project to ensure its timely completion. The inspection began from Katra, where Chaudhuri and the team traveled by motor trolley up to tunnel T1. They conducted a comprehensive review and inspection of tunnel T1, which is known for its challenging geology in the Himalayan region. Shri Chaudhuri directed all officers and staff to prioritize safety precautions and work diligently to complete the tunnel.
Chaudhuri also visited the Anji Bridge, where he appreciated the excellent progress made on the project. Furthermore, he conducted an inspection of the iconic Chenab Bridge and conducted a detailed motor trolley inspection from the bridge to Dugga station. He stressed the importance of meeting project targets and praised the work done on the Chenab Bridge.
While pleased with the ongoing works on the Bakkal-Dugga section, Chaudhuri emphasized the need to expedite the electrical and S&T (Signal and Telecommunication) works of the project. He acknowledged the USBRL's pioneering efforts in implementing the ROCs (Rigid Overhead Catenary System) work and had detailed discussions with the engineers executing the ROCs work at Reasi. He urged them to prioritize and expedite this work.
Shobhan Chaudhuri's visit to the USBRL Project demonstrates the Northern Railway's commitment to completing this crucial rail link, which will enhance connectivity and promote development in the region.
