Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 14: Today, the Live For Others - Being Helpful Foundation (LFO-BHF), a non-governmental organization (NGO), organized a significant menstrual awareness campaign in a slum area near Aap Shambhu Mandir, Jammu. The initiative, called "Mission R-SAP (Remove Shyness And Apply Pads)," aimed to eradicate the stigma surrounding menstruation and promote menstrual hygiene. The event was led by Vivek Parihar, CEO/Founder of LFO-BHF.
During the campaign, members of LFO-BHF worked tirelessly to dispel myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation, encouraging girls and women to embrace their menstrual cycles with pride and confidence. Stuti Abrol, the General Secretary of Jammu Province, LFO-BHF, delivered an informative lecture emphasizing the importance of menstrual hygiene in preventing infections.
Highlighting the significance of the campaign, Abrol stated, "Menstrual hygiene is of utmost importance for women to prevent infections. It is crucial to maintain proper menstrual hygiene and raise awareness about the significance of using sanitary napkins. Many girls in India cannot afford sanitary napkins and resort to unhygienic alternatives, increasing their risk of infections."
The event also included a donation drive, where approximately 2000 oxy-biodegradable sanitary napkins were distributed to the attendees. This effort aimed to raise awareness and dispel myths surrounding menstruation among more than 100 young girls who were the primary focus of the campaign.
Expressing her concern, Taniya Aggarwal, a member of LFO-BHF, emphasized that in India, menstrual health remains a taboo subject, leading to widespread misinformation and misconceptions. She stressed the importance of dispelling myths and doubts related to menstruation, encouraging open conversations on the topic.
The campaign witnessed the active participation of numerous dedicated volunteers, including Shubam, Abhishek Raina, Sachin, Vidit, Taniya, Shruti, Kunal, and many more. Their collective efforts and commitment contributed to the success of the donation cum awareness program.
Through this menstrual awareness campaign, Live For Others - Being Helpful Foundation strives to break the silence surrounding menstruation, empower women with knowledge about menstrual hygiene, and foster an environment of acceptance and understanding. By addressing the challenges associated with menstruation, the foundation aims to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for women in the community.
