Early Times Report REASI, July 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, a part of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), celebrated the 95th Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Foundation and Technology Day. The event, held at the KVK campus, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of farmers, farm women, rural youths, and Self Help Groups (SHGs) from the area. The program was organized under the guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, welcomed the participants and highlighted the achievements of ICAR in supporting the growth and development of farmers in India and abroad. ICAR is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The organization has played a significant role in ensuring self-sufficiency in food grains and nutritional security in the country. Dr. Lal educated the farmers about the agricultural research, education, and technologies developed by ICAR and its institutions. He also informed the participants about the establishment of 732 KVKs across the nation, which address the scientific agricultural needs of farmers and contribute to human resource development in agriculture and allied sectors. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi highlighted ICAR's role in promoting excellence in higher education in agriculture, while Ms. Preeti Chaudhary spoke about weather forecasting and encouraged farmers to utilize the benefits of the District Agro-meteorological Unit (DAMU) established at KVK, Reasi. Awardee/progressive farmers shared their valuable experiences, and participants had the opportunity to visit the KVK crop cafeteria and various units such as hydroponics, azolla, and vermicompost. The program also included a video show on organic and natural farming, an exhibition stall, and an interactive session where farmers had their queries answered by KVK scientists. The scientists emphasized the importance of natural farming, innovative technologies, climate-resilient agriculture, and the formation of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi. |
