SHIMLA, July 17: SJVN, under the leadership of Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, has been honored with the prestigious First Prize in the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards 2023 by the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The award was presented to Sh. N L Sharma by Union Power Secretary Sh. Pankaj Agarwal in a ceremony held in New Delhi. Smt. Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN, was also present during the event.
Nand Lal Sharma explained that the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards are bestowed by the Ministry of Power to recognize the exemplary efforts of Power Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) during the Swachhta Pakhwada observation, which takes place from 16th to 31st May every year. The evaluation is based on various parameters, including initiatives undertaken to promote awareness of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign) among the public. SJVN has secured the first prize, while the second and third prizes have been awarded to PGCIL and PFC, respectively. SJVN also won the first prize last year.
Expressing his gratitude, N L Sharma said, "It is a tremendous honor for SJVN to receive the first prize for two consecutive years. Each year, we develop a comprehensive Swachhta Pakhwada Action Plan to carry out various activities at all our project locations and offices across India. We work diligently to implement these initiatives and spread the message of cleanliness."
This year's action plan included plantation drives, awareness camps, cleanliness drives, promotion of eco-friendly materials, installation of solid waste disposal machines and dustbins in public places, sessions on menstrual hygiene awareness, and installation of sanitary pad incinerators in government educational institutions for girls. SJVN also distributed sanitation and personal hygiene materials in local communities.
As part of an innovative initiative, SJVN collaborated with the Municipal Corporation Shimla and Red Cross Society to launch an Empty Milk Pouch Collection Scheme in all Municipal Wards of Shimla, Municipal Wards around SJVN Projects in Himachal Pradesh, and Project Associated Panchayats. Furthermore, awareness camps were organized to promote waste segregation, vermi-composting, and the reuse of wastewater for agricultural purposes.
