AMDACC raises concerns over electricity billing, water supply issues | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 22: Today, the Core Committee of All Migrant Displaced Action Committee Camps issued a joint statement, expressing their exclusive authorization to represent the interests of All Migrant Camps, including Jagti, TRT Nagrota, Butanagar, Muthi, and Purkhoo. The committee has emphasized that no other nominated body is authorized to act on behalf of the camps except the All Migrant Camp Action Committee. The statement comes in the wake of the onset of electricity billing for the camps during April 2023. In response to the billing, the All Migrant Camp Action Committee organized a massive protest rally in Jagti Camp, with more than 6000 souls participating. As a result, they were called for a meeting by the District Administration, Relief Organization, and Power Development Corporation. During the meeting, the District Administration and Relief Organization sought reasonable time to address the demand for the revocation of electricity billing. In response, the Convenors of the meeting promised not to disturb the regular electricity supply to the government until the issue is resolved. The Core Committee has pledged not to hold further protests until the authorities settle the matter. Additionally, the Core Committee has urged all authorities involved not to entertain any representation from other individuals or parties regarding the electricity issue, except that of the All Migrant Camps Action Committee. Moreover, the Core Committee has raised serious concerns about the water supply scheme at Jagti. They have appealed to the government to immediately hand over the scheme to the Jal Shakti Department, following orders issued in 2021 during the winding up of the Engineering wing of the Relief Organization. The Core Committee has pointed out that the contractors responsible for the water supply scheme have been given extensions, even after their contract expired in April 2022. Allegedly, these extensions, granted to white-colored individuals, have caused losses worth Crores to the Government Exchequer. The migrants living in Jagti Camp are facing severe shortages of regular and hygienic water supply for the past twenty days, and the authorities' alleged inaction has exacerbated the situation. The committee has called for a sincere probe into the matter and has urged the authorities to hand over the water supply scheme to the Jal Shakti Department immediately. They also demand an investigation into the hourly water supply provided by the contractors, along with the payments made to them. In an appeal to the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Migrants Jammu, the Core Committee has requested personal intervention to expedite the resumption of regular water supply to the affected camps. The situation remains tense as the All Migrant Camps Action Committee and the authorities attempt to find a resolution to the electricity billing and water supply issues affecting thousands of souls residing in these camps. Further updates are awaited as the situation develops. |
