Police launches crackdown on drug, illicit liquor trade; two arrested in separate operations

REASI, July 29: In an unwavering commitment to combat drug abuse and the illicit liquor trade, the Reasi District Police has intensified its efforts, resulting in successful raids and arrests. Under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sh. Amit Gupta-JKPS, the police force leaves no stone unturned to protect the community from the perils of substance abuse.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police party from Pouni Police Station conducted a targeted raid in the adjoining areas of Village Kheralaid. The operation, led by SHO Pouni Insp. Purab Singh and supervised by Dy.SP headquarters Neeraj Padyar- JKPS, led to the arrest of a notorious offender identified as Mangi Singh, son of Kaka Singh, hailing from Kheralaid, Tehsil Pouni, District Reasi.
During the operation, the police confiscated a substantial amount of 10 litres of Desi Illicit liquor from Mangi Singh's possession. Furthermore, in a proactive measure to eradicate the menace, 55 litres of Lahan was also destroyed on the spot. An FIR (FIR No. 51/2023) has been registered at Pouni Police Station, invoking relevant sections of the Excise Act. The investigation has commenced to uncover the entire network involved in this illegal liquor trade.
In a separate incident, a vigilant Naka Party from Katra Police Station conducted thorough checking and frisking duty at PCP Nomain, Katra. During this operation, the party noticed two individuals attempting to evade the police, arousing suspicion.
The suspects, upon being apprehended, were identified as Mehnga Singh, son of Kulwant Singh, from Gali Dhotian Wali, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and Namsroop Singh, son of Jarnail Singh, from Warpal, Amritsar. The police conducted a search and discovered 9.50 grams of a substance resembling Heroin in Mehnga Singh's possession and 09 grams of a substance similar to Opium in Namsroop Singh's possession.
An FIR (FIR No. 238/2023) has been registered at Katra Police Station, invoking pertinent sections of the NDPS Act. The investigation is underway to trace the origin and distribution network of the illicit drugs.
SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta-JKPS, applauded the diligence of the police force and their dedication to rooting out the evils of drug abuse and illicit liquor smuggling in the region. He called upon the community to stand united with the police in their tireless endeavor to create a safe and drug-free environment for all residents.
The Reasi District Police's resolute action against drug offenders and illegal liquor traders underscores their firm resolve to protect society from the devastating consequences of substance abuse.
