DPAP facing downfall | | | The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), led by former Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister and former veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, is currently facing a tumultuous downfall. The party, which was appeared on the political arena of J&K with a bang, is now crumbling like a pack of cards, with prominent leaders leaving one after another. This mass exodus has raised serious concerns about the party’s future and highlighted the underlying issues that have caused its decline. The first crack in the party’s foundation appeared when several prominent leaders decided to part ways with the DPAP and rejoined the Congress when Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra reached J&K in January this year. These departures not only reflected a lack of faith in the leadership but also exposed internal divisions and rifts within the party. After that many leaders have left the party and a few have been expelled. Speculations are rife that two more DPAP leaders are planning to rejoin the Congress. The exodus of the party leaders has not only damaged the DPAP’s credibility but has also exposed its inability to provide a united front against political adversaries. In a democratic system, the strength of a political party lies in its ability to bring together diverse voices and opinions. However, the DPAP’s failure to do so has resulted in its weakening base and ultimately is leading to its decline. While the departure of prominent leaders has caused considerable damage, the departure of grassroots workers and supporters could prove to be even more detrimental to the party. These individuals form the backbone of any political organization, and their disillusionment is indicative of deep-rooted issues within the party. The loss of their trust and support will make it extremely difficult for the DPAP to make its presence felt in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, the lack of a clear and effective political strategy has further undermined the party’s prospects. Furthermore, the rise of alternative political forces in J&K is also emerging as a challenge. These new political outfits are successfully capitalizing on the vacuum left by the crumbling of traditional parties. The departure of prominent leaders, along with the loss of grassroots support, has weakened DPAP’s foundation. The lack of internal cohesion and a clear political strategy have further contributed to its woes. Unless the DPAP undergoes a significant transformation and addresses its internal and external issues, Azad will find it hard to keep his flock together. |
