Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: Rajouri Police has intensified its crackdown on narcotics peddlers, making significant strides in their efforts to combat the unlawful trade of narcotics in the region. In the month of July, the police detained five individuals and arrested four in five cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seizures made during these operations included 8.875 KGs of Heroin, Poppy Straw, and Charas.
The police in Rajouri district are taking proactive measures to curb the menace of narcotics peddling, which poses a significant threat to society. The peddlers not only indulge in smuggling narcotics but also attempt to lure youth, particularly students in schools and colleges, into the vicious cycle of addiction.
During the month of July, three individuals were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and two under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act. The respective detention orders were issued by the District Magistrate Rajouri and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, based on reports submitted by the district police office, to prevent these notorious peddlers from further engaging in unlawful activities.
As part of their actions, five FIRs were registered in Rajouri district, with three FIRs in Manjakote and one each in Nowshera and Rajouri police stations. The police arrested four individuals involved in peddling, successfully thwarting their smuggling attempts.
In total, the police seized 8.875 KGs (With Wrap) of Heroin, 3.350 KGs of Poppy Straw, and 159 Grams of Charas. Additionally, another consignment of 15 Grams of Heroin and some Cannabis powder were confiscated during the operations.
Speaking on the issue, SSP Rajouri, Amritpal Singh (IPS), acknowledged that narcotics and drugs addiction poses a significant challenge to society. He stressed the need for inclusive efforts from all sections of society to combat this problem effectively. The police are actively working to tighten the noose around peddlers in the district while simultaneously focusing on de-addiction efforts for the youth.
The SSP Rajouri appealed to the public to utilize the de-addiction facilities set up by the government in Rajouri, emphasizing the importance of promoting de-addiction and helping addicted youth recover and reintegrate into society. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement and the community are essential in overcoming the threat of narcotics and drugs addiction in the region.
