Jammu, Aug 4: In collaboration with the Ministry of MSME, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) to discuss the calendar of events aimed at promoting Intellectual Property (IP) Rights in Jammu and Kashmir and educate MSMEs about the significance and benefits of IP. The meeting highlighted the growing importance of safeguarding intellectual property for business success, as IP protection plays a crucial role in preserving brands, inventions, designs, and creative works from unauthorized exploitation. Shri G Velladurai, Joint Director, HoO, MSME-DFO, Jammu, lauded the PHDCCI’s initiative to assist industry members in protecting their Intellectual Property, emphasizing the necessity of IP awareness and registration for fostering innovation and economic growth. Shri Rahul Sahai, Chairman of Jammu Chapter, PHDCCI, emphasized the importance of IP for MSMEs and start-ups in gaining a competitive edge and sustaining themselves in business. He also highlighted the potential for Geographical Indications in the region, such as Basmati Rice, Pashmina Shawls, Hand-Knotted Carpets, and Saffron, and how PHDCCI IPFC Centre would play a pivotal role in their recognition. The meeting discussed various government schemes for IPR promotion, financial assistance for IP registrations, and organizing awareness programs. It also addressed the need for creating IP awareness among industries and educational institutions in the region to foster a culture of IP protection. Eminent speakers and participants, including representatives from MSME-DFO, Jammu and Srinagar, PHDCCI members, industry experts, journalists, and legal professionals, actively participated in the meeting. The session provided valuable insights on the benefits of encashing IPR for competitive advantage, emphasizing the importance of patents, copyrights, industrial designs, and trademarks in fostering innovation and business growth. PHDCCI assured its support in providing IP-related services and information to industries, startups, and entrepreneurs.
