Reasi, Aug 9: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, operating under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM), organized a one-day training programme for the members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Chetar village of Pouni block, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from numerous women members belonging to various SHGs in the area. The training programme was orchestrated under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, Prof. BN Tripathi, and Prof. SK Gupta, Director Extension of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, welcomed the participants and initiated the programme with a warm introduction. The technical session of the programme was marked by extensive insights shared by Dr. Banarsi Lal, focusing on various income generation activities and the potential of SHG formation for women empowerment, particularly in hilly regions. Dr. Banarsi Lal highlighted the importance of homogeneity within SHGs, regular meetings, and effective bookkeeping. He also provided guidance on scientific cultivation practices for organic vegetables, turmeric, ginger, pulses, and more. Emphasizing the concept of nutri-gardens, he underlined the benefits of growing organic vegetables for increased farm income. Value addition in fruits, vegetables, and spices was discussed as a means to enhance income and employment among SHG members. Yougal Kishore Sharma, Nodal Officer, JKRLM, Reasi, addressed the topic of processing seasonal fruits and vegetables. He praised the efforts of SHG members in crafting local grass-based handicrafts and encouraged them to expand their entrepreneurial endeavors. Raj Kumar from ICICI Foundation spoke about the value addition in spices to boost farm returns. During the interactive sessions, participants raised queries that were satisfactorily addressed by the officials. Quality packaging materials were provided to SHG members during the programme. Smt. Anita Devi, an awarded women farmer from the area, expressed her gratitude for the insightful programme organized by KVK, Reasi. The programme concluded with Yougal Kishore Sharma delivering a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the role of KVK, Reasi, in organizing such a beneficial training session for the SHGs. The event undoubtedly contributed to the empowerment and skill enhancement of women in the region, aligning with the larger goals of self-sufficiency and sustainable rural livelihoods. |
