Srinagar, Aug 9: Former Minister and Senior National Conference leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra praised the observations made by Chief Justice of India, Justice D Y Chandrachud, regarding the visionary outlook of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Sadhotra recalled Sheikh Sahib’s significant role in nation-building and his vision of aligning Jammu and Kashmir’s destiny with a secular, socialist, and democratic India. Sadhotra highlighted the relevance of Sheikh Sahib’s rejection of theocratic Pakistan during a pivotal time in history and his commitment to a united India. He quoted the Chief Justice’s reference to Sheikh Sahib’s speech from 1951, where he exposed the façade of Pakistan’s claim to being a Muslim state. In his statement, Sadhotra emphasized that Sheikh Sahib’s leadership and the National Conference’s resilience during challenging periods have shaped Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-political landscape for over seven decades. He underlined Sheikh Sahib’s commitment to national unity and secularism, which continues to inspire generations. Sadhotra highlighted the significance of Sheikh Sahib’s contributions, such as the Land Reforms Act, which empowered farmers and transformed the region. He called for the principles of inclusiveness, secularism, and equitable development advocated by Sheikh Sahib to be embraced across the nation. |
