Jammu, Aug 9: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Power Development Department (PDD), Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), organized a validation workshop on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The workshop, held in Jammu, aimed to explore the potential of energy efficiency in various sectors, including buildings, MSMEs, agriculture, and transport, within the region. Sh. Sunil Kumar, Technical Secretary of the Power Development Department, emphasized the vast opportunities for energy efficiency in Jammu & Kashmir and its applicability across different domains. Sanjay Sharma, Chief Electrical Inspector & OSD, PDD, highlighted the central focus of the action plan – the reduction of carbon emissions and measures to enhance energy efficiency. He stressed the importance of making the action plan public to gather suggestions and feedback, ensuring collective involvement in energy conservation efforts. Manik Batra, Chairman, and Sh. Bhupesh Gupta, Co-Chairman of ASSOCHAM J&K Council, expressed their appreciation to the departments for their collaborative support in developing the action plan. The validation workshop featured a comprehensive presentation by Mohit Tripathi (Project Manager, ASSOCHAM) and Aashish Kudal (Project Coordinator, ASSOCHAM) on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for UT Jammu & Kashmir. The presentation highlighted potential energy efficiency avenues in sectors such as transport, buildings, and industries. Detailed outlines of the action plan were discussed, including policies for electric vehicles, ethanol blending, tire labeling for fuel-efficient vehicles, implementation strategies for building codes and norms, replacement programs for inefficient appliances, BEE Star and Shunya ratings for buildings, energy efficiency in MSMEs, and promoting behavioral changes toward energy efficiency. The workshop received positive feedback from participants and stakeholders, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for energy efficiency initiatives. Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers, Joint Director, Additional Directors, Executive Engineers of various executive agencies, district officers, department representatives, and ASSOCHAM representatives participated in the event. |
