Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: The Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) convened an urgent meeting today, under the leadership of Sh. Lalit Mahajan, President of BBIA, to address the pressing issue of persistent power cuts faced by industrial units in the area. The meeting saw the participation of esteemed members, including Tarun Singla, Sr. Vice President; Ajay Langer, Vice President; Viraaj Malhotra, General Secretary; Rajesh Jain, Secretary; Vivek Singhal, Treasurer, BBIA, and others. The meeting was convened to deliberate on the growing concern surrounding unscheduled power cuts imposed by the SLDC Division of Power Development Department, causing disruptions and significant financial losses for the industrial units operating in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Hub. Members present at the meeting voiced strong reservations regarding the recurring unscheduled power cuts imposed by the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (JPDCL), both during the day and night. Despite the fact that the Department collects a substantial Rs. 175 Crores in revenue from the Bari Brahmana Industrial Complex, the industrial units continue to suffer substantial setbacks in production and finances due to these power disruptions. The JPDCL had previously committed to providing uninterrupted power supply to the industrial units in Jammu & Kashmir. Regrettably, recent events have shown that the power supply from BB-I and BB-2 Grid, as well as the Receiving Station, has been switched off without prior notice or intimation to Chief Engineer M&RE and System Operation. This lack of coordination between departments has resulted in severe repercussions for the industrial units, leaving their production heavily reliant on the mercy of the Power Development Department’s System and Operation Wing. In the face of these challenges, industrial units, particularly those engaged in the manufacturing of steel, plastic, and related products, have borne significant financial and production losses. The reliance on diesel-powered generators during unscheduled power cuts has escalated operational expenses for these units. BBIA has taken a proactive step by appealing to H. Rajesh Prasad (IAS), Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department, and Shiv Anant Tayal (IAS), Managing Director of Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd., to urgently intervene in the matter. The Association earnestly requests their intervention to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to the industrial units in Bari Brahmana, alleviating the burden of unscheduled power cuts and safeguarding both production and financial stability. |
