IGGDC celebrating Independence Day celebrations | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 12: Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College, Jammu, joined the nationwide celebrations of the 77th Independence Day as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative by hosting a special event called “Veeron Ka Vandan.” The college had the privilege of welcoming two distinguished guests, Honorable Sh. Bana Singh, Param Vir Chakra recipient, and Sh. Harcharan Singh, Vishisht Seva Medal awardee. The event took place on August 12, 2023, and served as an inspirational platform to honor the bravery and sacrifice of these exceptional individuals. In line with the ideals of “Meri Maati Mera Desh,” the college organized the program to pay tribute to the valiant heroes who have contributed significantly to the nation’s security. The event also marked the inauguration of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign at the institution. The chief guests, Capt. Bana Singh and Brig. Harcharan Singh, graced the occasion by solemnizing the “Panch Pran Pledge” with the students and staff members, symbolizing their commitment to the nation’s service. The campaign’s core values, encapsulated in “Panch Pran Pledge,” were shared with all attendees, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism. As part of the event, a touching ceremony involving lighting of diyas and holding soil in the hands in front of the national flag took place, signifying the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign’s initiation. This heartfelt moment was embraced by all participants, followed by the collective singing of the National Anthem. Dr. Rakesh K. Gupta, Principal and Dean of the institution, addressed the audience and highlighted the significance of India’s journey to independence, paying homage to the countless freedom fighters and brave hearts. He emphasized the importance of remembering their sacrifices and working towards a future marked by self-governance and sovereignty. Dr. Gupta also encouraged the implementation of Prime Minister’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The college proudly honored Capt. Bana Singh, a Param Vir Chakra awardee known for leading a team that reclaimed the highest peak on the Siachen glacier during Operation Rajiv. His heroic efforts were recognized by naming the Bana Post after him. Brig. Harcharan Singh, a Vishisht Seva Medal awardee, was also acknowledged for his outstanding service, including operations in Leh, Siachen, Port Blair, and various counter-terrorism activities. |
