early times report Jammu, Aug 14: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, emphasized that the government should take steps to dispel any misinformation surrounding smart meters and provide clear clarification on the transition of the power department billing system from postpaid to prepaid mode. He also addressed other concerns raised by the public. Kavinder Gupta made these remarks while addressing a small gathering after inaugurating development projects in Ward No. 54 Sectors 8 and 9 in Jammu. The projects, estimated to cost around Rs. 27 lakh, were launched under his leadership. He expressed his commitment to transforming Jammu into a model city in the near future. Gupta addressed the ongoing conflict between the citizens of Jammu and the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) over the installation of smart meters and the shift to a prepaid billing system. He stressed the importance of handling this situation with caution and urged the government to address people's concerns and doubts on the matter. He emphasized that it is essential for the government to provide clarity on the issue of smart meters and the billing system change, ensuring that there is no room for confusion or misunderstanding. Failing to do so could lead to undesirable consequences, and thus, the government should prioritize transparency and engage with the public to build confidence. Regarding the controversy over changing the name of SKICC to KICC and the opposition's criticism of the decision, Kavinder Gupta stood firmly by the J&K administration's stance. He stated that glorifying those responsible for the turmoil in Kashmir is not justifiable, and the government's decision is the right step forward. He further criticized certain political parties, particularly the National Conference (NC), for their actions during their leadership, which he claimed had adversely affected the region. He encouraged the government to actively address issues that had been caused by such political entities, and work towards rectifying the situation. The event was attended by local representatives and citizens, including Corporator Neeraj Lucky Puri, Rekha Mahajan, Vinay Gupta, Indu Puri, Divya Jain, Kapil Khurana, Ajay Sabharwal, Deepak Daftari, and Rajesh Gupta. |
