Kavinder Gupta endorses Ghulam Nabi Azad's historical perspective on religion in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 17: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta, has supported the timeline presented by former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad regarding the introduction of Islam in India. Gupta stated that around 1500 years ago, Islam was introduced in the sub-continent by invaders, and prior to that, the inhabitants practiced Hinduism. Referring to Azad's statement in Doda's Chiralla area, Kavinder Gupta remarked that Hinduism was the sole religion in India before the advent of various religious invasions. He further explained that historical records show that not more than 600 years ago, the population in Kashmir was predominantly Hindu, and the introduction of Islam occurred through conversion by invaders. Those who refused the conversion were subjected to brutal treatment. Gupta drew attention to the case of the ninth Guru of Sikhs, who stood in support of Kashmiri Hindus and faced martyrdom due to his stand against the oppressive rule of the Mughal rulers. The BJP leader emphasized that most of the Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir are descendants of Hindus, a viewpoint that has also been endorsed by NC Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah on multiple occasions. He cautioned against the exploitation of such historical facts for political gain, stating that divisions within society have no basis as everyone shares the same ancestors. Responding to allegations made by PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, Gupta dismissed her claims that India's situation has worsened and likened it to countries like Pakistan and Syria. He pointed out that India is on the path of unprecedented progress and is poised to become one of the world's top economies. He deemed Mehbooba's statements as expressions of frustration and desperation to regain her political standing. Gupta inaugurated development works in Ward No. 68 of Greater Kailash's Langer area, including lane and drain projects worth Rs 1 crore. Additionally, work on a Bathing Ghat worth Rs 12 lakh was initiated in Ward No. 1 in the Cantonment area. Other attendees at the event included Vinay Gupta, Narinder Koki, Bharat Bhushan (Vice Chairman of Cantonment), Anil Kumar (Corporator of Ward 68), and various local officials and residents |
