Immediate suspension of Sarore Toll Plaza urged amidst National Highway disruption | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, has appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for the urgent suspension of the Sarore Toll Plaza in light of the recent damage to the Tarnah Bridge on the National Highway in Samba district. During a press conference at the Press Club, Gaurav Gupta highlighted the collapse of the Tarnah Bridge, caused by incessant rains and flash floods on July 19, 2023. The bridge's destruction has disrupted vital transportation routes, leading to immense challenges for commuters. Gupta emphasized that the alternative road chosen for rerouting traffic is notably narrow, causing congestion and extended travel times for commuters, especially as the diverted traffic is now using border roads. He cited a similar example in Himachal Pradesh, where a section of National Highway No. 5 between Solan and Parwanoo has been blocked due to heavy rainfall. In this case, the District Magistrate invoked the Disaster Management Act 2005 and suspended the operation of a toll plaza until the highway is restored. Gupta acknowledged the positive changes witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He mentioned significant achievements such as the Artificial Lake, Jammu Zoo, Retreat ceremony at Suchetgarh Border, Laser & Fountain Show, and Replica of Tirupati temple. Gaurav Gupta requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take swift action in suspending the Sarore Toll Plaza to alleviate the hardships faced by the public during the diversion period. This move would provide relief to commuters and facilitate their movement until the National Highway is fully restored. He stressed the importance of addressing the current challenges and ensuring smoother transportation for the people. |
