Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: Rotary Club of Jammu organized a seminar focusing on Menstrual Hygiene and Women's Health at Government College for Women (GCW), Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, on August 18, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and women's health while providing free sanitary napkins to rural and low socio-economic groups in collaboration with Rtn. Kamini Mathur, Charter President of RC Jaipur Vision RID 3056, who sponsored the distribution. Acknowledging the multifaceted nature of menstrual health and its impact on women, Rotary Club highlighted its commitment to collaborating with various sectors, including health policymakers and program managers, to ensure comprehensive menstrual health care. The club strives to eliminate the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation, promoting menstruation-responsive schools, health facilities, and workplaces. Dr. Ruchita Mahajan and Rtn. Dr. Gaurav Vaid addressed the students at GCW, Bhagwati Nagar, emphasizing that despite its significance, menstrual hygiene often remains overlooked and stigmatized. Proper menstrual hygiene practices are vital for personal comfort, overall health, and well-being. The speakers delved into topics such as infection prevention, comfort, reproductive health, mental health, menstrual health education, breaking taboos, affordable menstrual products, and sanitary facilities. Rtn. S K Sawhney highlighted Rotary Club's dedication to its motto "Service Above Self" and explained the avenues through which the club is actively contributing to various initiatives. He expressed that GCW, Bhagwati Nagar, serves as a role model institute for others to emulate. The event featured Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of GCW, Bhagwati Nagar, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Pavanjeet Bali, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club, as the Guest of Honour. They outlined three key actions: recognizing menstruation as a health issue with physical, psychological, and social dimensions; ensuring access to information, education, products, facilities, and empathic care related to menstrual health; and integrating these activities into relevant sectoral plans and budgets for comprehensive measurement and assessment. The seminar underscored the importance of addressing menstrual hygiene and women's health not merely as biological aspects but as integral components of dignity, equality, and overall well-being.
