Pathankot, Aug 18: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully organized a two-day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs. The program, held in hybrid mode, took place on August 17 and 18, 2023, at the Zone by The Park Hotel in Pathankot. The event saw participation from mentors of 82 Standards Clubs through the hybrid format. Rajesh Kumar, District Education Officer (SE) of Pathankot, served as the Chief Guest during the program. In his keynote address, he emphasized the significance of quality assurance in the current digital era, which is consumerism-oriented. He highlighted the importance of instilling quality consciousness in the youth and preparing them for future needs. BIS JKBO has established over 270 Standards Clubs in educational institutions of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, aiming to foster a scientific approach among students in their daily lives. Tilak Raj, Director and Head of Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, outlined the program’s objectives and the role of mentors in guiding and channeling students’ creativity within standards clubs. He stressed the necessity for mentors to comprehend the concepts behind standards and their roles in maintaining quality. The training program featured technical lectures on various topics including an overview of BIS activities, quality and standardization concepts at national and international levels, the different types of standardization and standards, and the benefits of standardization. Sh. Hitesh Yadav, Scientist B of BIS-JKBO, delivered these lectures, focusing on the role and responsibilities of mentors, the objectives and guidelines for Standards Clubs, and more. The training also included practical demonstrations of the BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, and Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards. Participants engaged in classroom and group activities centered around standards writing on various subjects. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer of BIS JKBO, effectively coordinated the training program, and the BIS initiative of enhancing the capacity of mentors was well-received by the participants. The event marked an important step in promoting quality awareness and scientific thinking among the youth through the standards club initiative. |
