Early Times Report
SAMBA, Aug 19: The Eco Club of PPND GDC Samba paid a heartfelt tribute to the brave souls of Samba Tehsil by establishing a poignant "Veeron Ki Vatika" (Garden of Heroes) under the campaign "Meri Maati Mera Desh," as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The event was dedicated to honoring 18 families of war martyrs who selflessly laid down their lives for the nation in various conflicts spanning from 1947 to 2009.
The families of these valiant martyrs were warmly invited to the Veeron Ki Vatika, where they were presented with mementos and brief citations to express gratitude for their immense sacrifices. In a symbolic gesture, 18 saplings of Gulmohar, Delonix Regia, Pongamia Pinnata, and Terminalia Arjuna trees were planted by the martyrs' families, each named after a specific hero who gave their all for the motherland.
The program commenced with the NCC cadets and volunteers of the college welcoming the families of the martyrs at the college gate, accompanied by patriotic songs sung by students. The event's proceedings began with the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by the lighting of a traditional lamp.
Dr. (Prof) Twinkle Suri, the Principal of the college, delivered a warm welcome address, expressing that the establishment of "Veeron Ki Vatika" is a humble yet profound gesture to honor the 18 unsung heroes of Samba Tehsil. She emphasized that these saplings are more than just trees; they symbolize the passion, perseverance, and patriotism that these martyrs embodied. These values, she urged, should be instilled in the minds of the youth to cultivate a socially aware and morally upright society.
The program reached its conclusion with the recitation of the poignant words of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, "Bharat koi Mitti Ka Tukda Nahi Hai, Yeh ek Jeeta Jaagta RashtraPurush hai," followed by a solemn rendition of the National Anthem. The event was attended by the college community and students.
The event's proceedings were managed by Prof. Kamal Jeet (HOD Hindi), while the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Vijay Kumar, Convener of the Eco Club. The establishment of "Veeron Ki Vatika" stands as a meaningful tribute to the sacrifices of these heroes, ensuring that their memory lives on and inspires generations to come.
