Shiv Sena questions BJP's silence on burning issues in Jammu region | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 19: The Shiv Sena (UBT), Jammu and Kashmir, has launched a scathing criticism against the BJP leadership, accusing them of betrayal and silence on crucial issues affecting the Jammu region. In a press conference held at the Press Club in Jammu today, State Chief Manish Sahni criticized the administration's approach towards the installation of smart-prepaid meters and labeled it as a form of economic exploitation. Sahni highlighted several concerns and challenged the BJP's commitment to the welfare of the region. Manish Sahni expressed his disappointment with the BJP's silence on issues of significant public concern. He particularly pointed out the administration's stance on the installation of smart-prepaid meters, which he described as dictatorial behavior. Sahni asserted that instead of supporting the people, the BJP's silence was indirectly aiding economic exploitation, comparing them to the historical figure Jaichand. Sahni further elaborated on the negative consequences of smart-prepaid meter installation. He argued that it burdens the public economically while threatening the jobs of electricity department employees and leading to steps towards the privatization of the electricity sector. He questioned why the BJP, which secured a significant victory in the 2014 Legislative Assembly elections with 25 seats from the Jammu division, has remained silent on crucial issues, considering it a betrayal of the people's trust. The President of Shiv Sena criticized the growing prominence of liquor shops in Jammu, leading to the unemployment of many locals due to the implementation of a new excise policy. He questioned the BJP's inaction on this matter, emphasizing that while new toll plazas have been established in the region, the BJP leadership has failed to voice any concerns. Sahni highlighted the public's discontent with economic hardships, unemployment, and inflation. He criticized the BJP leaders for not actively participating in addressing these issues and suggested that their silence had contributed to the ongoing protests against property tax collection. "The issue of smart prepaid meters has brought the public and various opposition parties to the streets, but BJP leaders have taken a vow of silence," Sahni stated. Despite the BJP's presence in the Centre and a former BJP leader serving as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Sahni accused the BJP of oppression in the Jammu region, eroding people's faith in their rule. Concluding his remarks, Sahni noted that the upcoming Assembly elections are highly anticipated by the public to express their discontent with the BJP's performance. He expressed concern, however, about the BJP's hesitancy to conduct both the Assembly elections and the local body elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Present at the press conference were various party members, including President of the Mehila Wing Meenakshi Chibber, Vice President Sanjeev Kohli, Balwant Singh, and President of the Kamghar Wing Raj Singh. |
