Former DyCM Kavinder Gupta discredits Farooq Abdullah's historical claims | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 19: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, criticized NC Patron Farooq Abdullah's portrayal of the history of Kashmir, particularly the inception of Islam. Gupta dismissed Abdullah's description as a concoction of fiction, asserting that only a small part of it holds any truth while the rest is a product of the former chief minister's imagination and has no factual basis. In a statement addressed to the media, Kavinder Gupta accused the veteran NC leader of manipulating history to suit his political agenda. Gupta found it peculiar that Farooq Abdullah, a seasoned politician who has been actively involved in Kashmiri politics for a considerable period, appears to have limited knowledge about the region's past. Gupta suggested that it's possible that Farooq Abdullah is well aware that his account of the advent of Islam in Kashmir is inaccurate. He speculated that Abdullah's narrative might be driven by his party's vested political interests, even though historical records contradict his claims. Gupta emphasized that history reveals it was invaders who enforced conversions in the region, making Abdullah's version completely unfounded and riddled with gaps. The senior BJP leader lamented that the NC leadership has resorted to relying on "myths" and "lies" to mislead the public due to the truth being unfavorable to them. He argued that such tactics are damaging the image and credibility of the NC. It's worth noting that during a media interaction, Dr. Farooq Abdullah claimed that before the arrival of Islam, many people converted to Buddhism in the Kashmir Valley. He further stated that those who belonged to lower Brahmin clans converted to Islam to escape a divided society created by higher-caste Hindu Brahmins. |
