Shiv Sena threatens statewide agitation, demands free electricity, waiver of outstanding bills
8/20/2023 10:42:04 PM
Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Aug 20: Manish Sahni, the President of Shiv Sena (UBT), Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a stern warning of a statewide agitation while demanding the provision of free electricity up to 300 units and the complete waiver of outstanding electricity bills. Sahni's call for action came during a program in Udhampur district of the Jammu region. Sahni expressed concern over the plight of the people in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing their suffering to the shortcomings of the elected government. He decried the lack of attention given to the voices of the people and the apparent arbitrary actions of the administration.
While Sahni acknowledged the importance of development and technology, he highlighted the region's challenges, including the impact of terrorism and the abrogation of Article 370 over the last 35 years. He also drew attention to the ongoing economic slowdown, high inflation rates, and increasing unemployment, which have exacerbated the difficulties faced by the people.
Despite Jammu and Kashmir being one of the leading electricity-producing states in the country, Sahni pointed out that electricity rates have been consistently rising. He criticized the wastage of funds in changing electric meters multiple times over the past four years, causing inconvenience to the public. Additionally, the plan to introduce prepaid-smart meters is projected to further burden the common people economically.
Sahni questioned the veracity of relief claims made by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, noting that there is no tangible evidence of such relief being implemented. He urged unity among political and social organizations to come together and protest against the privatization of essential services like electricity. Sahni emphasized the need to safeguard the public from economic exploitation.
During the event, several local youths from Ward 7 and 11 joined Shiv Sena. Sahni announced Muzamil Khan as the president of Ward 11 and Mohan Lal as the president of Ward 7.
Prominent figures present at the event included General Secretary Vikas Bakshi, Vice President Sanjeev Kohli, Jatinder Arora, President of Kamghar wing Raj Singh Shashi Pal, President of Udhampur Sanjeev Kohli, Chairman Joginder Verma, Golpal Dogra, Anil Vijay, Rajesh Khajuria, Rajesh Verma, Viashla, Ronesh, Sahil Gandotra, and Pawan Gupta.
