Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 21: A week-long celebration of "Rashtra Ka Naam Paryavaran Saptah" concluded at the Govt. SPMR College of Commerce with fervor and a sense of environmental responsibility. The event, organized by the Eco Club, Department of Environmental Sciences, NSS, and NCC units of the college, in collaboration with the IQAC and Mission LiFe, took place from August 15th to August 22nd, 2023. The celebration kicked off on Independence Day, August 15th, with the hoisting of the National Flag, setting the tone for a week filled with various environmental activities aimed at raising awareness and fostering eco-consciousness among students and faculty members. Throughout the week, a series of engaging activities were carried out, including a Plantation Drive and Cultural Programme on the inaugural day. On August 16th, a poster-making and slogan-writing competition took place under the theme "Protect Environment, Protect Humanity," where students showcased their creativity and commitment to environmental protection. August 17th witnessed the "Best Out of Waste" competition, wherein students transformed waste plastic bottles into innovative and useful items such as flower vases and eco-bricks, demonstrating their resourcefulness and dedication to recycling. An enriching movie experience was offered to the students on August 18th, with the screening of the Oscar-winning film "The Elephant Whisperers," providing valuable insights into the significance of wildlife conservation. Adding a touch of creativity to the surroundings, the college campus underwent beautification on August 19th, as students and volunteers crafted charming swings using discarded rubber tires, highlighting the potential of upcycling. The culmination of the week-long celebration took place on August 21st with a plantation drive in the college campus. Principal and senior faculty members enthusiastically participated in planting tree saplings, symbolizing the college's commitment to environmental sustainability. Dr. Surinder Kumar, the Principal of the college, lauded the organizers' efforts and emphasized the crucial role such initiatives play in nurturing eco-consciousness among students. The event's success was attributed to the hard work and dedication of various faculty members including Prof. Barbara Kaul, Dr. Monika Malhotra, Dr. Sandhya Bharadwaj, and Malik Aijaz, among others. Prof. Savita Jamwal, Dr. Nazia Rasool, Prof. Deepshikha Sharma, Dr. Deepak Pathania, Prof. Apfan Ali, Dr. Jagmeet Kour, Dr. Fayza, Dr. Sarabjeet Kour, and Prof. Rishu Mahajan collaborated to coordinate the entire program. Volunteers such as Adil Nazir Qurashi, Mohd.
