Northern Railways' GM Shobhan Chaudhuri reviews safety and operations in performance meeting | | | agencies NEW DELHI, Aug 23: In a recent performance review meeting held at the Baroda House headquarters in New Delhi, Shobhan Chaudhuri, the General Manager of Northern Railways, addressed several critical issues concerning the railway system's safety, operations, security, and freight loading. Safety took center stage during the meeting, with Chaudhuri emphasizing the paramount importance of maintaining safety on the tracks. He underscored the need for rigorous visual inspections and lubrication of rail joints, with a priority on completing these tasks promptly. Chaudhuri also called for increased night patrolling inspections to enhance safety measures. The GM expressed concern over various untoward incidents that were reported over the past week. Discussions revolved around the status of rail and weld fractures, level crossing gate functionality, yard derailments, and overhead equipment (OHE) failures, all of which were examined in detail. Chaudhuri highlighted the significance of elevating maintenance standards for tracks, level crossings, and the construction of protective boundary walls along high-speed sections. He took strong note of instances of trespassing on railway lines and urged efforts to clear encroachments near the tracks to ensure safety. The GM also scrutinized train delays resulting from crew changes at crew changing points. He directed the divisions to expedite crew changes as swiftly as possible to minimize train delays caused by crew rotations. Maintaining punctuality and prioritizing freight loading with safety in mind were also stressed as crucial aspects by Chaudhuri for efficient operations. Chaudhuri emphasized that closely monitoring the progress of construction projects was of prime importance, as the railway's development and enhancement were closely linked to these projects. Department heads were instructed to expedite and complete construction projects within stipulated timeframes. To strengthen freight business development, Chaudhuri assessed the outreach of the Business Development Units (BDUs). He urged BDUs to foster an environment of trust, support, and confidence among customers, ensuring that the railways' initiatives and concessions effectively reach clients. Concluding the meeting, Chaudhuri reiterated Northern Railway's unwavering commitment to providing safe, smooth, and efficient services to its customers.
