Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: The Department of Commerce at Jammu University continues to foster enriched learning experiences, as it organized an insightful lecture on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for M.Com students. The session, held on August 28, 2023, marked a significant addition to the ongoing Industry Academia Linkage Series, aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry.
The distinguished speaker for the session was Sachin Gupta, State Taxes Officer (IT, DA & EI) based in Jammu. Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, Head of the Department, extended a warm welcome to Gupta and presented him with a memento as a token of appreciation. The coordination of the lecture was overseen by Dr. Vishal Gupta.
Sachin Gupta delved into the intricacies of GST, a pivotal reform within the Indian Taxation System. He addressed the contemporary economic landscape and the challenges entailed in implementing GST. With comprehensive insight, he discussed the core features of GST, emphasizing its role as a destination-based taxation scheme. Gupta presented a balanced perspective, outlining both the advantages and disadvantages of this transformative tax system.
Employing real-life scenarios as illustrative examples, Gupta dissected the complexities associated with GST collection from various traders. He adeptly simplified the multifaceted procedures stipulated under GST, sequentially guiding the audience through its mechanics. The lecture proved to be a source of inspiration for the attending students, culminating in a thought-provoking question and answer session.
