Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: The Sparsh Cluster University of Jammu, in collaboration with the ICCASH Committee of Government SPMR College of Commerce, organized an impactful awareness program on 'Cyber Bullying'. Held on August 28, 2023, the event featured a Poster-making and Slogan writing competition, aimed at shedding light on the pressing issue of cyberbullying.
Under the patronage of the college's Principal, Dr. Surinder Kumar, the program centered on raising awareness about the perils of cyberbullying, a digital menace that inflicts emotional and mental harm on individuals, leading to psychological distress. The objective was to educate students, especially those heavily engaged in the digital realm, about the importance of refraining from such harmful activities.
During the event, Dr. Surinder Kumar highlighted that cyberbullying can manifest on various platforms such as social media, messaging apps, and mobile phones. The repetitive behavior targets individuals with the intent to scare, annoy, or shame them. He underscored the significance of vigilance in preventing such occurrences.
Dr. Monika Malhotra, the convener of ICCASH, provided participants with examples of cyberbullying, illustrating its grave and potentially damaging consequences. Delving into the causes and effects of cyberbullying, Prof. Charandeep Handa reiterated the adverse impacts, including mental health issues, heightened stress, anxiety, depression, and lowered self-esteem.
The competition saw the participation of 20 students, who were allocated thirty minutes to express their creativity and thoughts on the issue. The entries were evaluated by Prof. Charandeep Handa and Dr. Sarabjeet Kaur Sudan, members of the Apex body of Sparsh, Cluster University of Jammu, under the guidance of Dr. Monika Malhotra, convener of ICCASH.
The event received active participation from esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Barbara Kaul, Prof. Savita Jamwal, Prof. Deepshikha Sharma, Prof. Monika Mahajan, Prof. Shreya Sharma, Dr. Roomi Rani, and Prof. Rajni Bala.
The awareness program not only shed light on the dangers of cyberbullying but also emphasized the collective responsibility to foster a safe and respectful digital environment.
