Early Times Report DARHAL, Aug 29: GDC Darhal celebrated National Sports Day on August 29, in honor of the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. This day serves as a tribute to India's sports heroes, recognizing their exceptional contributions in bringing glory to the nation. The event aimed to raise awareness about the core values of sports, such as discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, teamwork, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In collaboration with the Sports Committee of the college, the NSS unit (IMDAD) organized a friendly cricket match between GDC Darhal and Boys Hr. Sec. School Darhal. GDC Darhal emerged victorious by securing a win of 50 runs, with the team putting up a score of 110 runs in their allotted ten overs. The Boys Hr. Sec. School Darhal team managed to score 60 runs before being all out. Additionally, a mental game of Musical Chair was organized for female participants. The winners were Roheena Kosser of B.A Sem. 3rd (1st position), Sobia Begum of B.A Sem. 5th (2nd position), and Sharik Yaseema Kosser of B.A Sem. 5th (3rd position). The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the Principal of GDC Darhal. Prof. Shah highlighted Major Dhyan Chand's remarkable contribution to India's Olympic gold medal victories and stressed the importance of commemorating his legacy. He also emphasized the numerous health benefits of participating in sports, noting that they target multiple muscle groups and contribute to overall fitness.
