| GDC Banihal commemorates national sports day 2023 with Vigor | | | Early Time Report
Banihal, Aug 29: Govt. Degree College Banihal marked a spirited celebration of National Sports Day on August 29, 2023. The Department of Physical Education & Sports, in collaboration with the IQAC of the college, orchestrated a remarkable event as part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, with a focus on promoting sports culture and physical well-being. The celebration garnered unprecedented participation from both students and faculty members.
Mr. Deepak Kumar (PTI), a key figure within the college, took center stage as the speaker for the occasion. In his address, he shed light on the significance of National Sports Day and paid tribute to the remarkable achievements of the hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. Fondly known as the ‘Hockey Wizard of India,’ Major Dhyan Chand’s contributions have left an indelible mark on the Indian sports landscape. Mr. Kumar emphasized how Major Dhyan Chand’s legacy continues to inspire budding athletes across the nation.
Encouraging students to integrate physical activity into their daily routines, Mr. Kumar stressed the importance of actively participating in sports activities for both physical fitness and mental well-being.
The celebration took a practical turn with an engaging Table Tennis match among various designated teams/groups. The match saw Liquat Qayoom, a 3rd-semester student, emerge as the victor with a 3-0 win. The day concluded with a felicitation ceremony where all participants were awarded medals in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and sportsmanship.
