Kashmir 'incomplete' till return of Pandits : Mehbooba
8/30/2023 11:00:35 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 30: People's Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said Kashmir was 'incomplete' till the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland.
The former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state said the migration of the Kashmiri Pandits was a great loss.
"J&K, particularly Kashmir has suffered immensely and several lives have been lost. I believe that Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters who left the valley was a great loss. This loss cannot be compensated till they return back and live together with Muslim brethren in a peaceful atmosphere," Mufti told reporters at Bijbehara in Anantnag district of south Kashmir after visiting the ancient Thajiwara Temple where she extended her warm wishes to the Kashmiri Pandit community on the occasion of their annual Hawan during Raksha Bandhan.
She said her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed used to say they somehow failed to stop the migration of Kashmir Pandits.
"As CM of J&K Mufti sahib wished to bring Kashmiri Pandits back to their homeland and wanted to provide them a favourable atmosphere so that they return to Kashmir," Mehbooba added.
A PDP spokesman said the temple visit by Mufti in Bijbehara underlined this spirit of inclusivity.
"This move comes at a crucial time when divisive narratives threaten to fracture unity across the nation," the spokesman said, adding she was following the footsteps of her late father and has consistently advocated for unity and understanding between Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits, especially in the aftermath of the mass migration of Kashmiri Pandits during the 1990s.
"Her presence at the Thajiwara Temple is yet another testimony to her commitment to mending the bonds of trust and friendship that were strained during those tumultuous times," the spokesman said.
