POUNI, Aug 31: Government Degree College in Pouni hosted its inaugural annual orientation meet for the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) on August 31, 2023. The event welcomed Dr. Udhay Bhanu, Principal of GDC Pouni, as its distinguished guest.
The orientation session catered to both professors and students who are members of the Red Ribbon Club. The event was overseen by Prof. U S Liza, the Convener of the Red Ribbon Club, who effectively managed the proceedings of the day.
The primary goal of the program was to instill health awareness among the youth, particularly focusing on those who are at risk of HIV infection. This encompasses both the college campuses and the broader community. Prof. U S Liza delivered an enlightening discourse on HIV/AIDS, encompassing its causes, consequences, societal relevance, and the prevalent stigmas associated with the disease. The students were encouraged to serve as volunteers who can propagate the knowledge and awareness about this critical subject. Additionally, Prof. U S Liza discussed the forthcoming activities planned for the academic year 2023-2024 and shared the Red Ribbon Club's annual activity calendar.
Dr. Varsha Kapoor, the Convener of the Co-Curricular and Cultural Activities Committee, along with Prof. Balbir Kumar, the NSS Nodal officer, also addressed the attendees. They motivated the students to wholeheartedly participate in college events and contribute to their unique strengths.
Dr. Varsha Kapoor emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities that come their way and urged the students not to shy away from showcasing their talents and creativity. On the other hand, Prof. Balbir Kumar provided insights about various government schemes and online platforms where students can showcase their dancing, singing, and photography skills and stand a chance to win cash prizes.
The event drew an impressive turnout from students across all semesters, with a notable participation from the Red Ribbon Club members. In conclusion, Dr. Udhay Bhanu, the Principal of GDC Pouni, lauded the dedication of the Red Ribbon Club members and students in general, highlighting their integral role in the successful execution of the event.
