| Gen. Sapru conferred PVSM | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 30- Lt Gen TK Sapru, son of the soil and presently General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Chandimandir based Western Command has been conferred the prestigious Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) by the President of India for distinguished service of the most exceptional order on the occasion of Republic Day. Lt Gen Sapru is a product of Punjab Public School, Nabha and was commissioned into the Infantry (Fourth Gorkha Rifles) on June 15, 1969. In the 1971 war, the Gen saw action on both the Western and Eastern fronts. In a career spanning 38 years, the General has held various prestigious instructional, staff and command appointments. He was Assistant Military and Air Attaché in the Embassy of India at Kathmandu. His other staff assignments include being the General Staff Officer in the Directorate of Military Operations, Colonel General Staff in an active division in J&K, Deputy Military Secretary in Military Secretary Branch and Additional Director General (Procurement) in Master General of Ordnance Branch. He is an aluminous of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, Delhi. Prior to being bestowed with Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the General officer had been awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation in 1985 and the Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished service in active operations in 1999. The General has a varied command experience at various levels. He commanded an infantry battalion in intense counter insurgency operations, an infantry brigade in Punjab and another brigade in J&K during Operation Vijay (1999). He has commanded an active division deployed on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nagrota based Corps before taking over as the GOC-in-C of Western Command in November 2007.
