Federation of Industries in Jammu calls for protection of existing MSME Units | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 1: The Federation of Industries, Jammu (FOIJ), convened a meeting under the chairmanship of Sh. T.S. Reen, with the participation of Sh. Lalit Mahajan, Sh. Jatinder Aul, Sh. Deepak Dhawan, and other members. During the meeting, FOIJ made a significant appeal to safeguard the existing working Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) units from closure. FOIJ demanded price/purchase preference for the procurement of goods and works from local MSME units by State and Central Government departments operating in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. In the discussions that transpired, the members expressed serious concerns regarding the negative attitude displayed by government departments related to the industrial sector. This attitude has put the existing MSME units on the brink of closure, potentially leading to the unemployment of thousands of industrial workers in the near future. FOIJ highlighted that fiscal incentives announced by the government exist only on paper. The Industries Department has failed to release pending claims amounting to approximately Rs. 210 Crores for the financial year 2021-22. Despite repeated requests and reminders, the department has not increased the budgetary allocation from Rs. 50 Crores to Rs. 210 Crores, resulting in the blocking of working capital for existing units. Regarding marketing support for existing industrial units after August 5, 2019, FOIJ pointed out that major purchases have been shifted to the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) Portal, disregarding the price/purchase preference incentives offered by the previous government. Due to locational disadvantages, existing MSME units find it challenging to procure orders at competitive prices for raw materials. Additionally, government departments prefer external suppliers through the tendering process, which has led to the reduction of sales through the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) and State Industrial Cooperative (SICOP). This, in turn, is affecting thousands of MSME units dependent on government department supplies through SICOP.
