Ramban police launches operation Kamdhenu: Rescues 819 bovine animals, cracks down on smuggling rings

RAMBAN, Sept 5: In a determined crackdown on bovine smuggling, the Ramban Police conducted a massive operation, codenamed "Operation Kamdhenu," resulting in the rescue of a staggering 819 bovine animals. This operation is part of a broader effort to curb the illegal and inhumane practice of bovine smuggling in the Ramban District.
The operation involved the interception of fifty-three (53) different vehicles, each bearing distinct registration numbers. These vehicles, listed below, were on their way from Jammu towards Srinagar when they were stopped:

Upon inspection, all of these vehicles were found to be loaded with a total of 816 bovine animals. These animals were subjected to cruel and inhumane conditions, with no provisions for food and water. In addition, three more bovine animals were rescued, being carried on foot for smuggling and illegal trade. It was determined that all these bovine animals were being transported to the valley without the necessary valid permissions from the competent authority.
To address this egregious situation, the Ramban Police registered 54 cases across various police stations, including Police Station Ramban, Chanderkote, Batote, Banihal, Ramsoo, and Dharamkund. A total of 63 accused persons were booked in connection with these cases. Furthermore, all the aforementioned vehicles were seized, and the accused individuals were arrested under relevant sections of the law. Investigations into these cases have been initiated to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The operation was executed by police parties led by various Station House Officers (SHOs) and was under the overall supervision of Om Parkash Lalhal, Dy.SP Hqrs Ramban, Nihar Ranjan JKPS, SDPO Gool, Dy. SP Nisar Ahmed Khoja JKPS, SDPO Banihal, and Gourav Mahajan, JKPS, Addl. SP Ramban, with the overarching guidance of SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma IPS.
The District Police in Ramban remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating bovine smuggling, and it seeks the support of the community in sharing information to facilitate timely police intervention.
