Supreme Court directive prompts OBC reservation implementation | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 6: Following a directive from the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in its judgment dated 10-05-2022, the OBC (Other Backward Classes) Department of Pradesh Congress Committee J&K, headed by Adv. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Chairman of the OBC Department, has urged the implementation of reservation provisions for OBC categories in line with the Amendment Act(s) of 2022. The Supreme Court's order emphasized that if the delimitation process was not carried out by the State Government as per the Amendment Act(s) of 2022, which provides for reservations for the OBC category, the State Election Commission should implement this order for upcoming local body elections. The order also extended to all States, Union Territories, and respective Election Commissions, emphasizing the need to uphold the constitutional mandate. In light of these directives, the OBC Department of Pradesh Congress Committee J&K has formally requested the necessary orders to be passed for implementing OBC reservations in accordance with the Amendment Act(s) of 2022. This move aims to ensure that OBC communities receive the benefits and representation they are entitled to, in alignment with the constitutional framework and the directives of the Supreme Court of India. |
