DHSJ organises 3-day specialty camp for Eye Check up, Cataract Surgeries at DH Poonch

JAMMU, Sept 15: In an attempt to conduct maximum cataract surgeries and achieve the targets allotted under National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), Directorate of Health Services Jammu organized three day specialty camp for Eye check up and cataract surgeries at District Hospital Poonch from 13th to 15th September 2023, on the directions of Secretary Health & Medical Education, J&K Bhupinder Kumar.
A team of Consultant Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmic Technicians was deputed to District Hospital Poonch by Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, comprising of Consultant Ophthalmologists Dr. Kamal Gupta (Nodal Officer NPCB) Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Dr. Ghanshyam Singh CHC Akhnoor and Dr. Satinder Kumar Medical Officer (MS Ophthalmology) R.S. Pura along with Ophthalmic Technicians, Koushal Kumar Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Dharminder DH Rajouri and Mohd. Shafiq DH Rajouri for the camp.
District Development Commissioner Poonch Yaseen Mohd Choudhary facilitated and inaugurated the camp. During three days long camp, 166 patients were screened for eye ailments and a total of 65 patients were detected with cataract and selected for cataract surgeries. 39 successful cataract surgeries were performed by the deputed team.
The event was managed by joint efforts of CMO Poonch Dr. Anis Altaf Nabi and MS Poonch Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmed. The patients expressed gratitude to Director Health Services Jammu for organizing this camp which helped them to improve their vision and enhance quality of life that they can experience now.
In its commitment to provide accessible and quality eye care services to the community, Directorate of Health Services Jammu has scheduled another cataract surgery session by skilled eye surgeons to be held at District Hospital Poonch from 19th to 21st September 2023 which shall benefit more people of district Poonch and nearby remote areas. The left out cataract surgeries will be performed in this scheduled second session.
