Panni Samiti convention held at Samba

SAMBA, Sept 15: A Convention of Panni Samitis was held today here in the Conference Hall, DC Office Samba to spread awareness about the deep-seated objectives of flagship Jal Jevan Mission.
The convention chaired by Abhishek Sharma, District Jal Jeevan Mission Chairman, witnessed the active participation of multilevel Pani Samiti members and key officials including Rajinder Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner; Vivek Kohli, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Jammu; ACD, Siddharth Dhiman; Executive Engineer PHE Division Samba, DPMU District Samba among others. The convention commenced with a comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation highlighting the proposed plan and achievements of ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission works. District Samba boasts 112 water supply schemes, with approximately 36 nearing completion.
During the meeting, the need to expedite work by contractors was identified, prompting immediate action by District Development Commissioner Samba. The presentation shed light on the 112 water supply schemes in District Samba, with 36 nearing completion. It was emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental right and a top priority under the JJM.
In some cases, the need to accelerate the works by contractors was recognized, leading to on-the-spot instructions from the District Development Commissioner Samba to the Jal Shakti PHE Department Samba for immediate action.
The convention delved into the crucial role of Panni Samitis in maintaining water sources, ensuring water quality, efficient water usage, cleanliness of water sources, Har Ghar Jal Certification procedures, and skilling of nominated persons for O&M (Operations & Maintenance).
ISA members present at the convention were directed to perform and complete the remaining part of their activities in all the villages, emphasizing their role in achieving the mission’s goals.
Transparency was underscored in the formation of water supply schemes, the e-tendering process, and quality checking of works through Third Party Inspection and Quality Control Engineers.
The convention also discussed the Bhrashtachar Mukt Jal Jeevan Mission Programme in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, underscoring the commitment to corruption-free execution.
The convention exemplified the collective commitment to ensure clean and accessible water for every household in District Samba and fostering accountability in the execution of Jal Jeevan Mission projects.
