Deptt of Fisheries organized capacity building of officers in modern aquaculture technologies at ICAR Institutes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 17: To enhance the capacity of the departmental officers in the new and emerging land and water efficient Aquaculture technologies viz. RAS, Biofloc, Aquaponics etc, the department of Fisheries under the capacity building component of the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan has deputed 40 officers in two batches each at ICAR-Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research Institute, Bhimtal, Uttrakhand and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Indra Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyala, Raipur Chattisgarh for training in Recirculatory Aquaculture Technology and Biofloc Fish Culture Technology respectively. These technologies are widely used and established well in the leading fish producing countries of the world and are being introduced recently in J&K under HADP and PMMSY schemes. Two batches deputed at ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal and one batch deputed at ICAR-KVK, Raipur have successfully completed their training. Training in Biofloc Fish Culture for the second batch is scheduled on 10-14 October, 2023. Besides, to build the capacity and ability of newly appointed Extension functionaries in delivery of their duties, the department has deputed 10 newly appointed Extension functionaries at Extension Education Institute (Northern Region), CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare,Neelokheri Haryana. It was given out by the Mohammad Farooq Dar, JKAS, Director Fisheries, J&K that the fisheries sector in J&K was mainly concentrated on the conservation of natural water resources and semi intensive pond and Raceway culture systems but with the passage of time and with the development of modern aquaculture technologies an urgent need has been felt for building more capacity and skills among the Fisheries personnel for specialized short trainings to acquaint them with the new technological intervention in the modern fish culture systems. The Director Fisheries expressed that such short term courses have significant role to play for inculcating the knowledge and ability in various topics of fisheries and fisheries management and are also good for officers already having significant level of experience in the field. While expressing gratitude to the host Institute for imparting training to the departmental officers, the Director Fisheries appreciated the efforts of the Course coordinators viz Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Scientist DCFR, Bhimtal and Dr. S. Sasmal, Scientist, KVK, Raipur for covering the detailed practical aspects during the training course which shall enable the trainees to have an insight into the various field constraints in modern aquaculture systems and resolutions thereof. The Director Fisheries opined that the trained, skilled and technically sound manpower shall have detailed knowledge, expertise and ability to command and deliver effectively while implementing the aquaculture innovations in fisheries sector of J&K. The Director Fisheries also expressed gratitude to Principal Secretary to the Government, Agriculture Production Department, J&K, Shailendra Kumar, IAS, for extending whole hearted support for deputing Departmental officers to such revered ICAR institutes of the country. |
