Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 19: As part of the ongoing series of activities under the banner of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, an "Essay Writing Competition" was organized to celebrate "Hindi Diwas." This day holds historical significance as on September 14, 1949, the Hindi language was officially adopted as one of the official languages of the Republic of India. Written in the Devanagari script, the Indian Constitution recognized Hindi as the Official Language of India on this momentous day.
Approximately 425 million people across the nation speak Hindi as their first language, and an additional 120 million people speak it as their second language. To commemorate this linguistic milestone, students from various semesters participated in the essay writing competition.
The essays submitted by the students were thoughtfully evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges, including Dr. Harpreet Kour, Head of the Department of Political Science, and Dr. Mussarat Chowdhary, Head of the Department of Economics.
The winners of the competition were as follows:
First Prize: Ibrar Choudhary (B.A. Semester III)
Second Prize: Mannat Gupta (B.Com Semester V)
Third Prize: Ambika Sharma (B.A. Semester III)
The program was executed under the patronage of the college's Principal, Dr. B.B. Anand, and was skillfully organized by Dr. Satbir Kour, Head of the Department of Punjabi, and Prof. Pooja Sharma, Head of the Department of Dogri.
This event not only celebrated the rich linguistic diversity of India but also encouraged students to reflect on the importance of Hindi as a unifying force in the nation. It was a testament to the enduring significance of language and culture in our shared heritage, as well as a tribute to the ongoing journey of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.
