KVK organizes Farmers Scientist Interaction at village Palai to empower farming community | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, Sept 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Samba, operating under the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, hosted a Farmers Scientist Interaction program in Village Palai. This initiative was conducted under the leadership of Professor Bhupinder Nath Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, and supervised by Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu. The event aimed to engage with farmers in Village Palai and share agricultural expertise. Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist Entomology at KVK Samba, began the program with a warm welcome to more than 60 farmers and farmwomen. He emphasized KVK's mandate and its various activities designed for the benefit and upliftment of farmers in Samba district. Dr. Gupta highlighted the multi-dimensional role of farmers in ensuring sustainability and prosperity in agriculture. He also discussed the ongoing activities and programs of KVK Samba, encouraging the farming community to avail themselves of the technical support provided by KVK. Dr. Gupta stressed the importance of strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem among farmers and farmwomen in the district. Dr. Gupta emphasized that farmers can contribute significantly to the nation's economic development through activities like mushroom farming and beekeeping. He highlighted the vital role of beekeeping in enhancing crop productivity through pollination. Dr. Gupta explained how beekeeping can play a pivotal role in doubling farm income through value addition, marketing, and grading of honey. He also discussed KVK Samba's initiatives to promote beekeeping. Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Scientist (Animal Sciences), shared insights into various welfare schemes of both central and state governments in the animal husbandry sector. He informed farmers about the benefits of feeding silage to dairy animals and demonstrated cost-effective ration usage. Dr. Sharma stressed the importance of low-cost feeding practices for dairy animals and addressed various diseases affecting dairy animals in the kandi region of Samba district. He provided valuable guidance on mitigating issues like repeat breeding and its impact on farmers' socio-economic conditions. Ashraf Ali, a progressive farmer from Village Palai, extended a vote of thanks to KVK Samba for organizing the Farmers Scientist Interaction. He encouraged the farming community to stay in touch with KVK Samba for technical assistance to boost their agricultural endeavors. The Farmers Scientist Interaction program facilitated knowledge sharing and empowered farmers with valuable insights into modern agricultural practices and government schemes. It aimed to enhance the prosperity and sustainability of agriculture in the region. |
