KHOUR, Sept 20: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Government Degree College (GDC) Khour, under the wise guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) T.K. Sharma, organized a meaningful book reading session of “My Experiment with Truth” and “All Men are Brothers.” This event, led by the Department of English, aimed to acquaint students with the life, principles, philosophy, thoughts, and contributions of Gandhiji, offering them a holistic approach to life. Dr. Palvi Mangotra, Head of the English Department, initiated the session with a warm welcome address. She introduced the books to the eager readers, emphasizing that the primary goal of these books is to represent Gandhi’s personal experiences and experiments with truth. The stories shared by Gandhiji serve as illustrations, and students were encouraged to embark on their own experiments and incorporate these principles into their lives. Dr. Alyas Ahmed Wani conducted a slide show based on the books, providing students with visual insights into the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. This interactive element added depth to the reading experience. Several students participated in the reading session with great enthusiasm and zeal. They read chapters from both “My Experiment with Truth” and “All Men are Brothers,” immersing themselves in Gandhiji’s narrative and wisdom. At the end of the book reading, Dr. Seema Sudan, Head of the Hindi Department, facilitated a discussion. She related incidents from the books to everyday activities and shared her extensive experience to illustrate how students can integrate these principles into their lives, fostering positive change not only within themselves but also in the lives of others. Dr. Deepti Gupta, Head of Sociology, also contributed to the session. Dr. Palvi Mangotra presented a formal vote of thanks at the conclusion of the session, expressing gratitude to all participants and emphasizing the significance of imbibing Gandhian principles in today’s world. The book reading session at GDC Khour served as a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and provided students with valuable insights into his life and philosophy.
