AKHNOOR, Sept 21: In celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the Department of History at Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor organized a special film screening event featuring the iconic Oscar-winning movie "Gandhi," directed by Richard Attenborough. The event, held under the patronship of Prof. Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal of GDC Akhnoor, aimed to educate and inspire students about the pivotal role and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi in India's struggle for independence and the subsequent emergence of an independent nation.
The event commenced with an informative introduction provided by Prof. Mahesh Chander from the Department of History, setting the context and significance of the movie.
Students enthusiastically engaged in watching the movie, showing great interest in Gandhi's life and principles.
The film screening event was graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members including Prof. Ravi, Prof. Indveer Chanyal, Dr. Sandhya Rani, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Surinder Kumar, and Dr. Piyush Kant.
Prof. Jagmeet Kour Khajuria, Head of the Department of History, provided overall supervision for the event, ensuring its smooth execution.
Dr. Neha Sharma, also from the Department of History at GDC Akhnoor, concluded the program with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees and participants for their active involvement and support.
A lively and engaging Q&A session was held after the movie screening, allowing students to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions about Mahatma Gandhi's life and the historical context of India's struggle for independence.
