Directorate of Health Services organizes Eye Check-Up Camp in Poonch

POONCH, Sept 21: The Directorate of Health Services Jammu demonstrated its commitment to providing accessible and high-quality eye care services to the community by organizing a specialty camp for eye check-ups and cataract surgeries in district Poonch. The camp, held at CHC Mandi, aimed to address eye health issues in the region and provide necessary surgical interventions.
The camp was conducted under the guidance of Secretary Health & Medical Education, J&K, Bhupinder Kumar (IAS), and was part of the Directorate's ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services.
A team of Consultant Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmic Technicians was deputed by Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, for the camp. The team included Dr. Sandeep Gupta from Govt. Hospital Sarwal Jammu, Dr. Rajeev Sharma from GMC & AH Rajouri, and Dr. Rabia Saif, a PG Ophthalmology student from district Poonch, along with Ophthalmic Technicians Dharminder and Mohd. Shafiq.
The camp received an enthusiastic response from residents of remote areas in district Poonch who came to get their eyes examined for the detection of cataracts.
A total of 95 patients were screened for eye ailments during the camp, and 60 successful stitchless cataract surgeries were performed by the deputed medical team. These surgeries included the implantation of artificial intraocular lenses.
The successful execution of the camp was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr. Anis Altaf Nabi, and Block Medical Officer Mandi, Dr. Nusrat-ul-Nisa.
The local residents of Poonch, especially those from remote areas, expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the Directorate of Health Services Jammu in organizing these consecutive camps, which provided them with access to much-needed eye care services.
The eye check-up and cataract surgery camp organized by the Directorate of Health Services Jammu in district Poonch aimed to improve eye health and provide essential surgical interventions for the benefit of the local community.
