Early Times Report SAMBA, Sept 22: In a grand anti-drug awareness program organized by the police under the Civic Action Programme at the remote Government Higher Secondary School Goran, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Benam Tosh, presented cash rewards totaling Rs. 40,000 along with certificates to students from five Government schools. These students had delivered speeches and presentations at the event. The cash rewards were given to the first, second, and third best student speakers, with Rs. 12,000, Rs. 8,000, and Rs. 5,000 being presented to Nitika Dogra, Sonia Devi, and Velinder Singh, respectively. Additionally, Rs. 2,000 and certificates were given to five other student speakers: Shevani Devi, Arti Devi, Sonia Devi, Lakshmi Devi, and Arun Singh. A team of students that presented an impressive item on drug abuse also received Rs. 5,000. The anti-drug awareness program saw the participation of hundreds of students from various government schools, parents, teachers, prominent citizens, PRIs (Panchayati Raj Institutions), and police officers. SSP Samba, Benam Tosh, emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs and encouraged students to pursue higher education and stay away from negative influences. He highlighted the strengthening of police-student relations in Samba through various anti-drug programs, including symposiums, seminars, and debates in schools and colleges. These initiatives aim to create awareness about the dangers of narcotics, particularly heroin or "chitta," and promote a mass movement against drug abuse. The event received appreciation from Sarpanch Baletar Suraj Parkash Verma and the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Goran, Kulbir Singh. Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary, also addressed the gathering, urging youth to steer clear of narcotic substances. The police plan to organize more such awareness programs, cultural events, and sports activities in Samba district in the near future. |
